US President Donald Trump discussed the North Korean nuclear program and claimed that a military confrontation is a possible scenario. Trump stressed that he prefers to resolve the matter diplomatically and praised the Chinese President for his efforts to find a solution.
Yesterday (Thursday), US President Donald Trump held an interview with Reuters news and discussed the growing tensions between the countries surrounding North Korea’s nuclear program. “There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea,” Trump said. However, the US President stressed that he prefers to deal with North Korea’s nuclear threat peacefully: “We’d love to solve things diplomatically but it’s very difficult.”
Trump spoke warmly of Chinese President Xi Jinping. “I believe he is trying very hard,” he told Reuters. “He certainly doesn’t want to see turmoil and death…I know he would like to be able to do something, perhaps it’s possible that he can’t.”
During the interview, which marked Trump’s first 100 days in office, the US President explained that he would like South Korea to pay for the THAAD anti-missile defense system that will cost approximately 1 billion dollars.
Meanwhile, a senior level North Korean official told CNN during a rare interview that his country will continue to test nuclear missiles.
