Ruth Shternheld was born on Passover 1939 to Hella Friedlander and Izidor Shternheld. In 1942, she was murdered in Treblinka. She was only three years old.

This photograph is the only remaining fragment of Ruth Shternheld’s short and tragic life.

One and a half million children were murdered in the Holocaust, their names, identities and lives, wiped away.

One and a half million children, many murdered – like Ruth –  without leaving a trace.

For over 60 years, Yad Vashem has been working tirelessly to preserve the memory of the men, women and children murdered in the Holocaust by collecting their names and stories.

It is our shared responsibility to persist in our efforts restore the identities of the six million Jews murdered in the Shoah.

Tonight is Holocaust Remembrance Day. Donate now and help us in our vital mission of remembering the past and shaping the future.

*Until the end of Holocaust Remembrance Day, every donor of $100 or more will receive a limited edition Yad Vashem memorial pin.
