Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford, who is currently in South Korea, sent a serious message to Pyongyang Monday. Dunford said that the US military is ready to use its “full range” of capabilities to defend itself and its allies against North Korea.

The American general told South Korean President Moon Jae-in that if the international sanctions against Pyongyang fail, the military option has already been prepared. Dunford added that North Korea’s missiles are a threat to the entire world.

Shortly before his meeting with Dunford, Moon said that war should not return to the Korean Peninsula and called on his country’s northern neighbor to stop making threats. “With all of the ups and downs we are dealing with, the nuclear matter in North Korea needs to be resolved in peaceful ways,” Moon said during a meeting with his top advisors.

“We are urging North Korea to stop making the situation worse and immediately end all provocations and threats,” he added. “I’m convinced that the US will respond to the current situation in a calmly and responsible way from within a position that is aligned with us.”

Yesterday, CIA Director Mike Pompeo said that it would not come as a surprise if North Korea carries out another ballistic missile test. Pompeo added that he does not believe that the US and North Korea are on the verge of nuclear war. “I’ve seen no intelligence to indicate that we’re in that place today,” he told Fox News Sunday.
